Bones of the Australian Thylacine Reveals Lineage

The extinct and iconic Australian thylacine, often referred to as a "marsupial wolf" or "Tasmanian tiger," was discovered to be more cat than dog.

By examining the bones, Brown University postdoctoral researcher, Borja Figueirido and Christine Janis, professor of biology in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, determined it was more of a Tasmanian tiger due to its ambush-style predation and ability to outrun prey over long distances. These characteristics more closely follow the hunting approaches of cats, than dogs.

Their research was published in Biology Letters. Read more of the Australian thylacine history as a marsupial.
